In Dead By Daylights a few of the most popular cosmetics are painted. Leather face loses its facial masks. The reason: racism.
Only yesterday we reported about what Dead by Daylight wants to bring everything to meaningful changes in the coming months. Now there was more betrayed in a second blog post and a change ensures quite a turmoil. The killer Leather face loses 4 cosmetic objects. The reason for this is probably that some players chose them for racist motives.
What are the cosmetic items? The skins to which it goes in this case are in the truest sense of the word Skins, because they are skin masks that the killer Leather face can pull over the face — just like He also makes it in the movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
In addition to its standard mask, he can also free skin masks in four different colors. For this he has to hang the standard survivors (Meg, Jake, Dwight and Claudette) often enough in the basement to unlock their appropriate skin color as a mask.
Why is that changed now? In the latest Developer Update it is:
Members of the community have informed us their experiences with people they have targeted and harassed, because some of these masks were used. These messages have saddened us, and we condemn this behavior deeply. We do not feel well to have these masks in the game when used as a tool to sow hate. For this reason, we will remove the unlockable faces of the Cannibal [Leatherette] in the coming MID-Chapter update.
The four unlockable masks in the colors of the survivors are thus removed from the game.
Anyone who has ever played the cannibals, who gets to compensate at least 6,000 iridescent shards, with which one can unlock some cosmetic rewards for example in the shop.
Community is dissatisfied: The message arrived at the community rather negatively. While many understand that the targeted benefit of the masks is a problem if then targeted approximately dark-skinned characters are hunted or harassed appropriate streamers, but removing many than the wrong decision.
So writes Flint124:
Hear you heard it, people.
Behavior rather removes the only free non-prestige cosmetic that provides for any licensed killer instead of finally implementing a functioning signaling system.
Dam also agrees Acripplednan69:
The solution for the LEATHERETTE problem is not to remove the masks, but create a better reporting system.
Gojir4r1sing says:
Lass It all know that Behavior has ended the racism with 6,000 dazzling pieces today.
Most comments dealing with the masks are rather negative, positive voices are there — at least in Subreddit — only little to this decision.
A whole while we had reported an incident and already asked if exactly said Cosmetic can be racist in Dead by Daylight. At that time, it was just about using the mask and that the case seemed to be clear — apparently the incidents have happened in recent months.
What do you think about this? Is it the right choice to delete these masks? Or would you have to tackle the problem differently?
