In the SteamWorks documentation has always been clearly regulated which prerequisites Publisher and developers must fulfill so they may offer their games on Valves distribution platform Steam. For a long time, the list of content that is not allowed was from the following twelve points:
What you should not publish on Steam:
- Language, hatred, violence or discrimination of groups or persons due to ethnic origin, religion, gender, age, disability or sexual orientation
2. Explicit sexual representation of real persons. 3. Non-youth free content, if these are not characterized by adequate age restrictions 4. Insulting or defamatory statements 5. Content whose owners are not or for which they do not have the necessary rights 6. Content violating laws of jurisdiction in which the content is available 7. Content, which are obviously offensive or intend to shock or replace viewers 8. Content, the child maltreatment of any kind 9. Applications that modify customers to unexpected or harmful species (eg malware or viruses) 10. Applications trying to determine personal information, such as the credentials of Steam Accounts or Financial Information (eg credit card information) 11. Video content that does not directly refer to a product distributed on Steam. 12. Non-interactive VR videos in 360 °
However, Valve has recently supplemented a point 13:
Applications Built On Blockchain Technology That Issue Or Allow Exchange of Cryptocurrencies Or Nfts.
Say: Games containing crypto currencies or NTS (non-fungible token) and put on blockchains are apparently no longer desired on Steam. Such NFTs are digitally created unique pieces, which are, for example, pictures, videos or ingame items and only possessed by a single user.
That this change came to light, but one of the affected made a developer of Age of Rust. Since Aor sets on NFTs, it was pushed down as a result of the new rule of Steam. According to the developer posts, Valve assorted as a reason for the new rule that Ingame content is forbidden by genuine value, such as crypto currencies or NFTs, on Steam.

Anyone who now admits that there are all sorts of steam items on Steam, which can be sold for real money, should concern: These items are directly under Valves control. This does not apply to crypto currencies and NFTs. Crypt duts like Bitcoin, Monero and EtherEm are also in criticism for other reasons. On the one hand, the causes turbines to Bitcoins and Co. each year a lot of electric script . On the other hand, platforms such as Opensea are repeatedly associated with money laundering and insider trading. Surely Valve does not want to be thrown into a pot with these.
By the way, not all games have been banished with cryptoges from Steam yet. The moderately evaluated, but quite popular mir4, for example, can still be downloaded. The MMO allows you to earn about sales crypto currency. All affected games could find a new home in the Epic Games Store. Opposite the Verge, the CEO of Epic Games, Tim Sweeney, recently confirmed that the Epic Games Store is open to appropriate titles.
